Business Strategist

Alpha

  • Level: Senior
  • Location: Hybrid
  • Full/Part: Full-time

Location

This role may require you to travel to Sydney, and All Across India (especially to Hyderabad, Noida).

Apply for this role

Pensieve builds software for private and government hospitals. We are building it as a deep-technology institution, with the software engineering rigor that has never been done before in medicine. The systems underneath are formally specified and machine-checked, access is controlled to a fine grain, and correctness is treated as a first-order requirement.

Pensieve builds the software system for hospital operations and clinical records for hospitals, and patients. A modern hospital is one of the most data-rich environments on earth. Data ranges across vitals streaming from bedside monitors, admissions and transfers firing every minute, lab results, imaging studies, clinical notes, orders, theatre schedules, and staffing rosters. A minor glitch in the software can result in delayed discharges, missed deterioration, overcrowded emergency departments, and unavoidable harm.

We build software for the institutions that never close, where reliability is not a metric: it is a duty.

Role overview

  • A Business Strategist belongs to Alpha, the part of Pensieve that reaches an institution first. Before an engineer is assigned and before anything is configured, you are inside the hospital working out what is actually broken, and for whom.
  • You work with hospital leadership: medical directors, administrators, and the people who run operations day to day. You map how the institution really runs, where its information breaks down, and which of those failures Pensieve can close. What you learn decides where the Forward Deployed Engineers begin.
  • You explain Pensieve to the people who decide whether to run it, and you never make a claim we cannot back. Hospitals have heard every promise software can make. The trust you earn by saying only what is true is the trust every engineer who follows you works on.
  • You bring back what the market said. What institutions ask for, what they decline, and why, returns to the teams who build Pensieve and shapes what they build next.

Rounds

  • Business Strategists go on Rounds as well. Before you can say what Pensieve changes on a ward, you need to have stood on one: at a nursing station during a handover, at an admissions desk on a busy morning, beside a bed manager deciding where the next patient goes.
  • What you see there is the evidence for every conversation that follows. A strategy written on the floor describes the hospital that exists.

Core responsibilities

  • Lead Pensieve’s first conversations with a hospital’s leadership, and keep the relationship through deployment and after it.
  • Map an institution’s workflows, systems and constraints, and write down where its operational and clinical failures cost it time, money and safety.
  • Bring the Forward Deployed Engineers into each institution with a clear account of the problems they are there to solve.
  • Explain what Pensieve does and how it is deployed, in terms a medical director and a finance head can each act on.
  • Hold every statement made to a hospital to what Pensieve can show and support.
  • Report what institutions ask for, what they decline and why, to the teams who decide what Pensieve builds next.

Technologies we use

  • Pensieve itself. You will know the platform well enough to explain each tool to a clinician and to an administrator, and to say where each one ends.
  • The interoperability standards a hospital’s existing systems already speak, among them HL7 v2, FHIR and DICOM.
  • India’s digital health and data protection frameworks, including ABDM and the DPDP Act, as they bear on what a hospital may do with its records.
  • Written briefs, proposals and models that a hospital’s leadership can read and act on without us in the room.

What we value

  • Listening before speaking. The first visit to an institution is for understanding it.
  • Precision about what software can and cannot do, and the discipline to stay inside it.
  • Patience with ambiguity. Hospitals rarely describe their problems in the terms that solve them.
  • Respect for the people who run hospitals, and for how hard their work already is.
  • Ownership of a relationship from the first meeting to the day the hospital runs on Pensieve.
  • Clear writing. A good brief travels further than any meeting.

What we require

  • Proof of work: institutions you have understood, relationships you have opened, or problems you have taken apart and written up. Time in a job title is not the measure.
  • A record of earning the trust of senior people in a complex organisation.
  • The ability to learn a technical product deeply enough to explain it without overstating it.
  • Strong written and verbal communication, with leadership and with engineers alike.
  • One personal website that holds your work in one place.
  • Willingness to travel to Sydney and across India, with a passport and the other documents travel requires.

What helps, but is not required

  • Experience advising, selling to, or working inside hospitals or other healthcare institutions.
  • Experience with government healthcare programmes or public procurement.
  • Familiarity with hospital operations, clinical workflows, or healthcare finance.
  • A technical background, or years spent working closely with engineers.

Where you will work

We prefer hybrid work. You can work remotely as per your choice, but you will be required to come to our notified cluster office whenever required. It’s usually at the time of a new deployment, or at least once a month, and that can extend up to a week. We notify you about it in advance.

Benefits

  • The estimated salary range for this position is ₹55,00,000 to ₹1,35,00,000 per year. Total compensation may also include equity, a sign-on bonus, and other future incentives.
  • Final compensation is determined by each individual’s qualifications, experience, skills, and other relevant factors. The range above excludes the value of any sign-on bonus, the value of any benefits offered, and the future value of any long-term equity.
  • Comprehensive medical insurance for employees and their eligible dependents, covering outpatient care, dental, and vision.
  • Group term life, personal accident, and disability cover, provided automatically to every employee.
  • Relocation assistance for you and your family if required.
  • Two weeks of paid time off at the time of Deepawali, subject to team and business needs.
  • Ten paid holidays across the calendar year.
  • A supportive leave of absence program, including time off for medical events and other significant life circumstances.
  • Paid leave for new parents.
